Thai SIM / eSIM Comparison
Three Thai carriers. The "free SIM at airport" is a tourist trap if you don't know the price structure. This tool picks the right plan based on your data needs and how long you stay.
Setup
What this solves
Picking the right plan and buying at the right place. Airport booths charge 2× what you'd pay in a mall.
How to read
- AIS: best 4G/5G coverage, slightly more expensive. #1 carrier.
- dtac: similar coverage, biggest tourist plan variety.
- TrueMove H: best 5G in cities; weaker on islands.
- eSIM: Airalo, Holafly, Saily — buy before flying, no physical card.
Limitations
- eSIM requires eSIM-compatible phone (iPhone XS+, recent Android).
- "Unlimited" plans throttle after 50 GB.
- 5G is unavailable on most islands.
FAQ
Is the airport "free SIM" actually free?
Sometimes — but you pay for the data package. Read the brochure. Often 599 THB for 5 days / 15 GB. Mall counter same plan: 399 THB.
What about the 7-Eleven SIM?
Pre-paid tourist packs. Need passport + photo. 599 THB for 8 days / unlimited but throttled. Decent budget choice.
